With the full support from the stands, the Portuguese national team broke through the defences of Hungary and made way for the semi-finals.
On one of the most intense games of the tournament, Hungary got the advantage of the first half by 23-11, but Portugal recovered in the second half (20-18).
It was in shoot-out that the match was decided as well as the victory of Portugal. “It was the first time we went to shootout and ended up eliminating a team that might be the favorite,” says Paulo Félix, the Portuguese coach, who hopes to achieve the same result with the men’s team.
“[Hungary] is a team that reacts much to the opponent’s attack, but we had also already thought of everything, we had other ways to attack”
