Being part of a region of great historical, patrimonial and natural richness, Nazaré is the ideal place for an unforgettable holiday.
The handsome bay is protected and sheltered by its magnificent promontory, above which we find Sítio da Nazaré. This part of the town should be reached by funicular, a century-old means of transportation, which offers the user a memorable perspective of the beach’s horizons. Up the hill, in Sítio, from the Suberco Belvedere one of the most beautiful seascapes of the country can be admired. Here, legend and religion meet in the cult of Our Lady of Nazaré.
Pederneira, the oldest part of the fishing community, is the calm guardian of the old memories. Once it was one of the fishing harbour of the Cistercian Monastery of Alcobaça and an active shipbuilding yard, today it contemplates the development of the stretching beach below the hill.
Walking Nazaré’s small and narrow streets, perpendicular to the sea, where life goes by according to the wind and the tides, it’s to discover the inner life of these people. Cheerful and lively, these people hide the sadness behind a smiling face; sing when speaking, they charm everyone with their way of dressing and of being.
